I’m so glad and excited about the fact that Danica Patrick won her first race this weekend in the Indy Racing League. It’s an awesome thing and I think it’s safe to say that we all knew it was going to happen eventually it was just a matter of when.
My overall feeling was one of sadness that I didn’t get to see it happen live. I purposely went looking for the IndyCar race on television on Saturday and what I found on ESPN with a title of IRL Racing was in actuality professional women’s billiards. At that point I gave up ’cause after the Red Sox/Yankees debacle of last week I was over searching for races.
So yea, I’m sad I didn’t get to see it happen. I have to say that as a woman I am truly proud of this moment in motorsports history. This is a big deal and it’s important, it proves once and for all that it doesn’t matter what your gender is and that at the end of the day it’s about your drive and passion for the sport.
The only thing I’m not looking forward to is the coverage that’s going to come next. Instead of asking her when she’s going to get her first win it’s going to be all about when she’s going to get her second. And even in general, this will take her to another level of celebrity in the sport and outside. So are you ready for Danica Mania 2.0?
And following that thought, check out this promotion from Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. for their IndyCar race in August:

The most fun he’s had with his clothes on. Yeah, that’s what Carl Edwards said after the Corona Mexico 200, a Nationwide Series race, in Mexico City on Sunday.
After seeing Carl without his shirt on during the pre-race show I had to take a few minutes to digest that comment.
Honestly I’d never thought about him in that context before, ya know the whole no clothes and having fun kind of thing and now that I have it’s kind of jarring. In a good way, I think, I guess I just wasn’t expecting him to say that.
His body is ridiculous. Just ridiculous. David Ragan didn’t look bad shirtless either.
I was seriously disappointed that Scott Pruett couldn’t pull out the win yet again, and that Kyle Busch of all people had to be the one to ruin it for him this time. But whatever, he did all he could. My heart also went out to Boris Said who was spun out by Marcos Ambrose late in the race. Boris was pissed and rightly so, it’s hard to watch someone you’re pulling for leave the race for something that was totally out of their control.
I don’t know if anyone watched the race but didn’t it seem like everyone calling the race had the hardest time saying Colin Braun’s name? Sometimes they’d pronounce his last name as “Brown” and then other times I’d hear people say it like “Brawn” so which the heck is it?
My guilty pleasure is to take a look at the daily celebrity photo galleries from People.com and today (like everyday before it) there was a photo of David Beckham and his wife Victoria (aka Posh Spice of Spice Girls fame) leaving the popular Los Angeles restaurant Pink Taco. The soccer star hottie was there with the family to celebrate his wife’s birthday.
So here’s why I’m talking about this, in the photos two of the Beckham’s children, 9-year-old Brooklyn and 5-year-old Romeo, are holding what I think is a die cast car of Tony Stewart’s No. 20 Home Depot Chevy.
I hope this means they’re NASCAR fans, I think that’d be really cool. I’m just sayin’.
I’ve been wanting to make a post about this for sometime now. So here goes nothing. The following photos are of my cube at work (aka my day job). I thought it would be cool show you guys how I’ve decorated my space. I have to say that it’s not as extravagant or cool as some of my previous spaces have been, we’re supposed to be moving to another office at some point so who wants to move all that stuff?
As they say on MTV Cribs, “This is where the magic happens” — at least in a literary sense:

Google runs my life and I’m totally ok with that.
Let’s all take a moment to thank the great people at ESPN The Magazine for putting Dale Earnhardt Jr. on one of the covers for their 10th anniversary. Thank you!

My pride & joy by far has to be my credential holder, all of the races I’ve attended as a member of the media are kept in this puppy and I would seriously freak out if I ever lost it. Good times, good times. I’m also collecting (or at least trying to) the little diecast cars the folks at the Auto Club Speedway give out every year, I have no idea if they actually sell these but I like the fact that I got ‘em for free. Each car has the date of race written on it, they definitely make for a great keepsake.
Oh and I must point out the super cute birthday card (sitting next to the John Mayer photo) my friend Jamie gave me 8 years ago (crazy!). It’s the coolest thing ever because the two little girls look eerily just like us, right on down to my glasses and her blond hair!

Yes, that’s right, I have two Dale Jr. calendars! I have no shame.
I was at Barnes & Noble this weekend picking up a copy of the latest Jennifer Weiner book (So far so good!) and I stopped to check out the magazine stand. I came across the Official NASCAR 2008 Preview and Press Guide. I was flipping through it and I happened upon Kurt Busch’s profile page. One small tidbit of information caught me by surprise.
It said that Kurt Busch was single.
This is interesting because it’s common knowledge that Kurt has been married to his wife, Eva since July of 2006. They may wanna fix this for next year’s issue.

The photos were taken with my camera phone so they’re kinda blurry but you get the point.
This whole Red Sox-Yankees game rain delay situation is pissing me off even more now than it did on Saturday. Why? Because people are trying to make it seem like us race fans shouldn’t be mad because Fox Sports was “trying” to keep everybody happy. I don’t care, the situation was obvious and simple to resolve. And for the record this has nothing to do with liking or not liking baseball, so people should take that out of the equation. The game had been on a rain delay for 2 hours! They had 2 hours to move the game over to FX and continue coverage from there. Sorry Fox Sports, you’re not getting a mulligan from me on this one, you f’ed up and that’s the bottom line.
To add insult to injury Dale Earnhardt Jr. didn’t win the race, and while I’m happy for Hendrick Motorsports getting their first win of the season with Jimmie Johnson, it’s still lame. For me seeing Johnson win is one of the most boring things to watch. If anyone had any doubts that Jimmie would win a race this season they had to be on something because you knew it would happen it was just a matter of when and I’m sure it’ll happen again. I don’t dislike Jimmie at all. I think he’s a nice guy and a great driver (and I do love that Lowe’s commercial where he fixes everything in sight) but I personally don’t get excited when he or Jeff Gordon wins. They’ve done so much of it I want to see someone else and I’m not talking about just Dale Jr. If the guys from Yates Racing could pull something out that’d be total insanity and I’d love it. Or if Clint Bowyer and Casey Mears could make another appearance in Victory Lane I’d be ecstatic.
