There have been moments in the life of this blog that I will remember FOR-EV-ER. I have goals for this website and for myself, and so far I’ve had four of them come to fruition. They’ve been those moments where after it was all said and done I thought to myself “Holy crap, that just happened.” Finally getting to attend a Dale Earnhardt Jr. hauler-side press conference for the first time, interviewing Dale Jarrett, sitting on a NASCAR panel at Blog World, and attending Champion’s Week have all been super huge for me. Each one has been a step forward.
And now I get to add a new milestone to the list. Yesterday I received my very own NASCAR media hard card! This means that I’m in, like, truly in, permanently (well, at least for this year) to all of NASCAR’s events.
“With great power comes great responsibility”
That is a quote from the first Spider-Man movie. Yes, I’m quoting fictional characters. But here’s why: I feel like now that I have this hard card — that I’ve coveted from afar for so long — I have to do great things with it. I can’t not use it. It would be like having a Ferrari in your garage and never driving it. This spurs me on to want to do MORE. I want to do bigger and better things and keep creating unique and fun content that you’re not going to get anywhere else.
Of course, with everything that I might want to do with this site there’s only so much I can do on my own. I’m not shy about saying how important advertisers and sponsors are to the continued development of this site. They’re super important!
Because I have a day job the amount of time that I can spend working on this blog is limited, and it also limits the races that I can get to. You can imagine how disheartening it is to know that I can go to any friggin’ race I want but I can’t because I have another job to do. I know that what will attract sponsors and advertisers is my audience, but in order to have a super large audience that will attract said advertisers I need to have tons of kick butt content, but in order to have tons of kick butt content I need to be able to spend more time creating it, but I can’t spend more time creating it because I have a day job. So you see my conundrum.
And a clear example of this is that I can’t go to the Auto Club 500 in February as I had planned because of work responsibilities. However, I’m still planning on going to Las Vegas the following weekend.
Anyway, I’m celebrating this moment like crazy. It’s so cool and I’m so glad that NASCAR trusts/respects me enough to allow me to be a part of their media corps. I’m going to go take a nap with my hard card now.
