champion’s week in las vegas? yes, please!

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year…”

When I sing that song I’m not thinking about Christmas. I don’t get nearly as excited about Christmas as I do about NASCAR’s Champion’s Week in Las Vegas. I enjoy Las Vegas. It’s got everything and you never have to leave your hotel to experience half of it.

The Cosmopolitan Las Vegas - Terrace StudioIn general, I’m a fan of hotels and room service — one of my proudest moments as the aunt to three boys was when they told me they love room service (that’s how I knew for sure that we were related). :)

So every time I go to Vegas I check-in to a different hotel, they’ve got a ton of ‘em so there’s no reason not to experiment. For the first Vegas Champion’s Week I stayed at the Mirage (nice), last year at Aria (supernice) and this year I’m booked at The Cosmopolitan (as seen in the photo above). I couldn’t be more thrilled, it JUST opened at the beginning of this year, and I’m stoked about getting to experience it first-hand. Their tagline “The right amount of wrong” intrigues me, can’t wait to find out if it’s true.

For as much I love Champion’s Week for it’s ability to let me interview a bunch of the top drivers all at once (my hit list for this year is very simple: Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Denny Hamlin, Jeff Gordon, Ryan Newman, Kevin Harvick and Dale Earnhardt Jr.), I’m sure that the biggest reason why I love Champion’s Week is because I get the opportunity to dress up. Day-to-day I stick with jeans for the most part, but when the awards banquet rolls around I get to be the lady I know I should be the entire year.

Last year, I wore a black BCBG dress (that I got for a SUPER ridiculous price) with a black shrug, with a bold red lip and classic black-lined eyes. I thought it would be super fun to create an “inspiration board” of what I’m thinking of wearing this year. I’m on the fence about buying a new dress since I only wear these things once a year (and really, who’s looking at me?) so why bother getting something else. I thought about pairing the black dress from last year with a red cardigan, and then doing a smokey (with red highlights) eye. But my M.O. is to go shopping over the post-Thanksgiving holiday weekend (on Sunday morning as early as possible), so if I find something I love I might change it up.

Champions Week style board

I arrive in Vegas on Wednesday, November 30th and depart on December 3rd. The basic schedule is:

Wednesday – Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s Champion’s Week Kickoff Event on Fremont Street
Thursday – NASCAR NMPA Myers Brothers Awards Luncheon (Bellagio), NASCAR Victory Lap (The Strip), NASCAR After the Lap (Hard Rock Hotel), The Stewies (Hard Rock Hotel)
Friday - The 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards Banquet at the Wynn Las Vegas

As usual, I will be tweeting throughout the week while I’m in Vegas, so make sure to follow me for updates and photos.

Do you not try to stay at the hotels where the drivers are? (Not in a groupie type of way, obviously, but to get that special vibe)

No, not really. I’ve just really wanted to stay at the hotels i’ve chosen. In the case of Aria and the Cosmopolitan they’re new and I love new hotels. Maybe next year i’ll stay where I know a lot of drivers are, but regardless of that I see them all a lot over the week.

Ha! I was waiting for someone to ask that. Well, the ceremony is held at the Wynn, so that’s a good place to hang out. Especially in the casino. :)

Do you know if there is anything that fans can see before the awards banquet (red carpet, etc.)? If so, what time? Thanks! Have a great time.

The fans take over the strip and downtown!! We LUV NASCAR almost as much as they love us… The kickoff downtown will be a great time for fans to meet and get close to the drivers.

The victory lap is an awesome time to get photos of the cars and the drivers as they cruise the strip. They actually do a lap.. Once up the strip, the burnout than back down the other lane.

Valli, you know if you need notes or tips, hit me up. We cover this every year and have pretty good access to the cars on the lap (Know the best spots for shooting) and the Red carpet.

    See you soon.
