Do you watch ABC’s show “Shark Tank”? Ya know, the show where entrepreneurs try to get the “Sharks” to invest in their companies & ideas. (I LOVE this show! I wish I had something I could present to them in hopes of making a deal. And even if you don’t the exposure alone is worth it.) Well one of those potential investors has set his sights on a NASCAR driver.

19-year-old Alex Bowman is running full-time in the Nationwide Series for RAB Racing with Brack Maggard. He’s a rookie this year but he’s got a veteran on his side in the form of Daymond John, CEO and Founder of FUBU, a $6 billion global fashion brand. Daymond’s team at Shark Branding has taken on Alex to help him secure sponsorship opportunities.

As a young dude who’s passionate about things like EDM (Electronic Dance Music) and technology, Shark Branding & Daymond John see him as the perfect driver to bring in new types of sponsors to NASCAR. I found this partnership interesting in that the focus is on building sponsors around Alex, brands and sponsors that are authentic to who Alex is on and off the track. It’s an intriguing angle, one that makes sense considering that all sponsors — whether it’s a personal contract or a sponsorship of an entire race team — are investing in a person and their personality. I just think it’s cool that they’re starting out on the personal side first.

I had the opportunity to speak with both Daymond and Alex and I can say that they’re both excited about working together. Alex is focused on having a successful year on the track, as that is always priority #1, he’s currently 10th in the points standings heading into Auto Club Speedway.

And as it turns out, Daymond John will also be on hand for the Royal Purple 300 in Fontana this weekend, he will serve as Honorary Starter for the race.
