Driver Boris Said celebrates his win at the NAPA Auto Parts 200 Nationwide Series NASCAR race in Montreal, August 29, 2010. REUTERS/Shaun Best (CANADA - Tags: SPORT MOTOR RACING)This is a special photo combo post for the Bristol weekend and the Nationwide race in Montreal.

The Montreal race was absolutely awesome. I loved that last lap. I wanted any of those guys to win, Boris Said, Jacques Villeneuve, or Max Papis. But Boris was able to pull out the win over Max. Such a great crazy finish. I, for one, would love to see what would happen if there was a Sprint Cup race at Montreal.

I was disappointed that Boris’ son, with his little blonde mop top, wasn’t on hand to watch his dad win. That would have been such a cute victory lane celebration.

Oh and how kind of freaky was it to watch Jacques breathing so hard in his car during the red flag? I seriously thought he was going to pass out at some point. I’ve never seen anyone breathing like that in a race car. Crazy. But he seemed totally fine after the race, must of been the adrenaline on that last lap.

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - JULY 03: Team owner Chip Ganassi stands in the pit box during the Grand-Am Brumos Porsche 250 at Daytona International Speedway on July 3, 2010 in Daytona Beach, Florida. (Photo by Chris Trotman/Getty Images for ISC)So here’s how this interview came about: My brother-in-law’s brother works with a childhood friend of Chip Ganassi’s. My BIL’s brother told his coworker about me and my blog, and it just so happened that the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma at Infineon Raceway was coming up, and he, Chip’s friend, was going to be at the race and could introduce me to the team owner.

I am super grateful to both men for making this happen. I was excited that I could meet Chip, especially this year when so many wonderful things have happened for Target Chip Ganassi Racing and Earnhardt Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, winning the Daytona 500 with Jamie McMurray, the Indianapolis 500 with Dario Franchitti and the Brickyard 400 with Jamie McMurray.

Incidentally, yesterday was my birthday but it was also declared “Chip Ganassi Day” in Pittsburgh, PA.

I was very nervous meeting Chip, but he was nice and had a good sense of humor about the ITAS questions as you’ll see below. (more…)

hehe. :)

Seriously. Today is my birthday. I owe you guys so much content, it’s not funny. I still need to wrap up my time at the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma, post stuff from Bristol and Boris Said’s awesome win at Montreal. Oh! And my awesome interview with Chip Ganassi.

I’ve been busy with a little project that I hope will turn into big news, and I’ve been sick and I’m getting over the shock that I’ve been around for 30 years.

30 is a big milestone but I’m thinking that turning 31 next year on August 31st will be even bigger.

:)

EDMONTON, AB - JULY 23: Danica Patrick driver of the GoDaddy.com Andretti Autosport Dallara Honda during the Indy Car Series Honda Indy Edmonton on July 23, 2010 at Edmonton City Centre Airport in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. (Photo by Jonathan Ferrey/Getty Images)Or, at the very least, the creepiest fan I’ve ever encountered.

So here I was thinking that nothing that interesting was going to happen today while I was at Infineon Raceway for the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma weekend. Today was the Fluid Film Pole Day and oh what a pole day it was.

So I was sitting on the wall behind the pit stalls for Dan Wheldon and Danica Patrick at the end of the IZOD IndyCar Series practice. Wheldon on my left, Patrick on my right. I stayed there through the Formula Car Challenge Race and then for the Firestone Indy Lights qualifying sessions. It was during the Indy Lights qualifying sessions that this young man suddenly appeared nearby.

He had a curious little box in his hand and he opened it. Inside of it was clearly a ring you’d give to a lady you want to marry. He opened it and closed it quickly. He seemed as if he was practicing his proposal. He was talking to himself out loud, like he was rehearsing what he was going to say. He was pacing.

At first, for like one minute, I thought that he might be some super sweet & romantic race fan that wanted to propose to his longtime girlfriend around the sport for which they shared a love.

But then I quickly started to think that that wasn’t the case at all. I believed that he wanted to propose to Danica Patrick despite the fact that she’s already married and that her husband was there today. (more…)

In other news…

JR Motorsports announced today that they’ve signed Aric Almirola to a multi-year deal to drive the No. 88 in the Nationwide Series starting in 2011. I think this is a good fit for Aric and JR Motorsports, and it’s handy to be signing a big deal when you’re about to get married right? :)

“The chance to drive full time in the Nationwide Series with a top caliber team is something I am extremely excited about,” Almirola said.  “I was at the shop yesterday, and Kelley gathered all the employees around to announce our deal. The energy and excitement was addicting. We raced at ORP together a month ago and had a really good run.  There is no reason why we cannot compete like that every race, and there is no reason why we shouldn’t be running for a championship. I would expect nothing less.”

Tony Stewart wears the firesuit that's up for auction at OfficeDepotRacing.com– Now is the time to bid on the firesuit and helmet worn by Tony Stewart at this year’s July 10th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Chicagoland Speedway. Just go to the brand spanking new OfficeDepotRacing.com website.

More deets:

… through August 23, fans can bid on the actual Office Depot Foundation firesuit and helmet worn by Stewart during the July 10 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series™ race at Chicagoland Speedway. Stewart’s No. 14 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevy featured a special “back-to-school” paint scheme at Chicagoland, and the unique firesuit and helmet were created specifically for that race.

Both items will be autographed by Stewart, and proceeds from the auction will be used to support The Office Depot Foundation’s award-winning National Backpack Program, which provides new backpacks to schools and charitable organizations that work with children in need across the country.

“It was a lot of fun to have the special back-to-school paint scheme on my No. 14 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevy earlier this summer, and I’m very proud to partner with the Office Depot Foundation on its National Backpack Program,” Stewart said. “I can tell you from experience how rewarding it is to see the look on these kids’ faces when they get a new backpack – it’s an automatic boost of confidence for them and helps them feel ready to take on the new school year just like everybody else. I hope fans will help support this awesome program by participating in the online auction.”

Kevin Harvick and team owner Richard Childress celebrate the win in Victory Lane at Michigan International Speedway.(Credit: Jason Smith/Getty Images for NASCAR)I missed the Carfax 400 at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday because I was busy driving two of my nephews (ages 9 and 11) from their home in Los Angeles to my mom’s house in the SF Bay Area. I love my nephews more than words can say but spending 7 hours in a car with them is not something I really want to do again. Who knew that doing word search puzzles could be a competitive thing?? :)

Anyway, I did catch some of the race action from SIRIUS Satellite Radio’s coverage with MRN, but the boys were more interested in hearing music from Drake and, amazingly enough, Katy Perry’s song “California Gurls.”

In between pop music stints I did learn that Kevin Harvick won and that Dale Earnhardt Jr. dropped a couple curse words while being interviewed by ESPN’s Marty Smith.

So this post is going to be super duper photo heavy. Enjoy! :)
